Meet the newest members of South Simcoe police

Four experienced officers and four new cadets have officially joined the ranks, covering Bradford West Gwillimbury and Innisfil

Four experienced officers and four new cadets have officially joined our ranks! The officers were sworn in at the Bradford West Gwillimbury/Innisfil Police Services Board meeting held at Innisfil Community Hall on Monday, Dec. 17, 2018. The Honourable Jonathan Bliss presided over the event. Acting Sgt. Rich Williamson was recognized for 30 years of service. Innisfil Mayor Lynn Dollin was sworn in as a member of the police services board. All board members had a chance to congratulate our new members in front of a packed room of proud family members and friends. 

Allow us to introduce our new South Simcoe Police Service officers. 

Police Constable – Cadets (recruits): 

These new recruits have been through rigorous recruitment process during the summer months and started at SSPS as cadets on Aug. 20 2018. In Sept. 2018 they started three month basic constable training at the Ontario Police College which they have now completed successfully. After returning from OPC they have completed their in-service training and will be assigned to Coach Officers in the coming weeks. The recruits must successfully complete 6- 8 weeks of training with their coach officers before they are signed off for independent patrol. During busy weeks of holidays the new hires assist us with our RIDE program. 

The following information and background is provided for each new cadet: 

Rachel Varrall 

Rachel attended Durham College for Business Accounting for two years and worked full time for eight years in various positions including coaching and in the private financial industry. Rachel volunteers for multiple causes and leads a very active lifestyle participating in mountain biking, triathlon, cycling, and marathon runs, skating etc. Rachel has successfully completed her Basic Constable training and received one of the highest marks at OPC. 


Daniel (Dan) Raymond 

Dan earned a Bachelor of Arts with Honors in 2013 and completed a Can-Fit-Pro Personal Training specialist course. Dan has worked in several industries for more than five years including the financial field and fitness. Dan volunteers for a variety of causes including working with developmentally disabled children. Dan lives an active lifestyle, participating in Triathlons, where he earned first place in Ontario Triathlon Series and secured top spots, two years in a row. Dan completed Basic Constable Course successfully. In addition, at OPC he was the intake athlete of his classes completing 300+ workouts and he was selected as the valedictorian of the year by the entire peer group. 


Jacob (Jake) McCann 

Jake completed his Police Foundations Course in 2008 after graduating from high school. He has also completed several certificate programs. Jake has 12 years of work experience in various jobs including a support worker, Wildlife Control Officer and in the aviation industry. Jake volunteers extensively with autistic adults and various charities. Jake completed Basic Constable Course successfully with high marks. 


Wazeer Rahiman 

Wazeer has completed several educational programs including a Bachelor of Commerce and Accounting. Wazeer immigrated to Canada in 2012 from India. After migrating to Canada, he completed the Police Foundations Course and worked for three years as a supervisor in the restaurant industry. Wazeer volunteers at various organizations including Crime Stoppers and a youth centre. In addition, he was selected to be the student representative on the Police Foundation Advisory Committee. He received a Community Service Award in Memory of Chief Jack Delcourt and Orillia Police Association Award in spring of 2018 from Georgian College for his volunteering efforts. Wazeer also started a not-for-profit group called Kerala Muslim Students Association to provide support and guidance to the international students. Wazeer successfully completed the Basic Constable course with marks above the intake average. 



Police Constable – (Experienced): 

The below experienced officers also went through a rigorous recruitment process during the fall months. They started their two week training on 
Dec. 10, 2018 after which they will be assigned to a coach officer and before they are signed off for independent assignment. The training time for experienced officers is reasonably shorter due to their past experience and training. 

The following information and background is provided for each new 
experienced hire: 

Benjamin Irwin 

Ben has been Police Constable with the Peel Regional Police Service for 12 years. He served in a variety of roles including Homicide and Missing Persons Bureau and the Street Crime Gang unit. In addition, he assisted in training by lecturing on several courses. Ben has lived in the South Simcoe Police Service area for a number of years and is currently completing a Police Foundations Leadership Program. 

Ashley Keveza 

Ashley’s police career started 10 years ago with Toronto Police Service. She has worked in several units including Family Services where she was a lead investigator for a number of investigations of Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, Child Abuse and Youth Crime. Outside of her work she is 
committed to personal health and fitness and helps people with nutrition coaching. Ashley completed her Bachelor’s degree in Justice Studies and has been a South Simcoe resident since 2010. 

David Oxley 

David started with Peel Regional Police Service in 2008 and has completed 10 years in policing career. His assignments in the Peel Regional Police Service included Uniform Emergency First Response Unit, Criminal Investigations Bureau and the Break & Enter unit. He has also completed several training courses. David is also a part-time firefighter with Innisfil Fire and Rescue Services. A local resident, David has completed his Bachelor’s degree in Justice Studies. 

Jessica Irwin 

Jessica completed her 12 years of policing experience with Toronto Police Service. She was most recently assigned to the Intelligence Service – 
Mobile Support Services. She has also served in a variety of other roles including Organized Crime Enforcement – Major Project Section, Family Services, Criminal Investigation Bureau and Community Response Unit. In addition, she was seconded to RCMP for the 2010 Winter Olympics. Jessica 
lives in the South Simcoe Police Service area and has volunteered with a number of charities including Special Olympics. 


South Simcoe Police Service also welcomed a number of new civilian employees. 

Candice Coghlin 

Candice Coghlin joined the South Simcoe Police Service in the role of Administration Clerk on July 16, 2018. Candice has a Criminology & Criminal Justice Degree from Carleton University in Ottawa as well as 6 years of previous experience as a 911 Dispatcher. 


Holly Fediuk 

Holly Fediuk joined the South Simcoe Police Service on June 4, 2018 in the role of part-time Front Desk clerk. On November 13, 2018 Holly was successful in the competition for a full-time position in this same role. Holly’s previous experience includes most recently working in the esthetics industry and for Health Canada in Whitehorse, Yukon. 

Michelle Moscon 

Michelle Moscon joined the South Simcoe Police Service on June 4, 2018 in the role of part-time Front Desk clerk. On November 13, 2018 Michelle was successful in the competition for a full-time position in this same role. Michelle has a Criminology & Socio-Legal Studies degree from the University of Toronto as well as previous experience as a Senior Customer Service associate with a Toronto Research firm.
