Markham tow-truck driver sustains minor injuries in shooting

AURORA - Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) - Highway Safety Division (HSD) - Aurora Detachment are currently investigating a shooting that took place on the Steeles Avenue westbound ramp to Highway 404 northbound, in the City of Markham.

On Saturday, Feb. 1, 2020, at approximately 1:45 a.m. the York Regional Police Service received a complaint of a shooting. The OPP was notified of the event and attended the scene of the shooting. 

The male victim advised that he and a female passenger were stationary when an unknown vehicle and assailants approached and fired at the tow vehicle. The male driver sustained minor injuries and was treated and released from hospital while the female was not injured.

There is no suspect or vehicle information at this time.

The investigation is being conducted by the OPP - Highway Safety Division - Major Crime Unit with support from the Forensic Identification Services (OPP), under the direction of Detective Inspector Rob Matthews of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB).
