Man killed after vehicle leaves highway, crashes into tree (update: driver identified)

Incident happened at about 8 p.m., Wednesday, when car left Highway 400 near Vasey Road; Highway reopened at about 2:30 a.m.

Dec. 17 update:
Investigators have identified the deceased driver who was the lone occupant in the vehicle as Amoma Richards, 56, of Kleinburg, Ont.

Members of the OPP Central Region Traffic Unit are continuing their investigation into the cause of the crash.

Original information:
A man was killed as a result of single-vehicle crash on Highway 400 in Severn Township last night.

OPP say a passing motorist called 911 at about 8 p.m. to alert emergency services of the tragic incident.

Police say the vehicle and its lone male driver left the northbound lanes of Highway 400 about 1.5 kilometres south of Vasey Road, struck a tree and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Investigators are being assisted by members of the OPP Central Region Traffic Unit in their investigation into the cause of the crash.

Both northbound lanes of Highway 400, between Vasey Road and Moonstone Road, were closed for the investigation, but reopened at about 2:30 a.m. 

An update will be provided as information becomes available, say police.
