Local man arrested in relation to fuel thefts

ESSA TOWNSHIP - In March 2016, members of the Nottawasaga Detachment, Ontario Provincial Police, Street Crime Unit, became involved in a theft of fuel investigation involving thefts in Essa Township and Oro-Medonte Township.

There were five known fuel thefts and police were looking for a white Ford F-150 that had been observed during each theft.

In June 2017, a person of interest was identified as well as a vehicle, operating in the City of Barrie.

On August 8, 2017, members of the Nottawasaga Detachment Street Crime Unit intensified their investigation with this person of interest and the suspect vehicle. In an attempt to stop the vehicle to further investigate, the driver fled from police. The pursuit was terminated by the officers for public safety reasons.

A search warrant was conducted at the suspects residence and he was arrested and charged with the following offences:

  •  Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, Under $5,000 X 6
  • Theft Under $5,000, X 5
  • Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle
  • Flight While Pursued by Police Officer
  • Drive while Disqualified.
  •  Possession of a Schedule 1 drug, CDSA, X 2

A 33-year-old Barrie man has been arrested and is being held in custody awaiting a Bail Hearing.
