'Knife-wielding' suspect arrested in Alcona robbery investigation: police

Police say the accused hid in a back room, assaulted a store employee

INNISFIL - A 52-year-old Innisil man has been charged following an armed robbery in Innisfil.

On Thursday, Oct. 24, 2019 around 8:30 p.m., police were called to a business in the Innisfil Beach Road and 25th Sideroad area of Alcona.

Once on scene, officers learned that an employee had been confronted by a knife-wielding suspect who was hiding in the back room after closing.

The suspect fled the building empty-handed after assaulting the employee who fortunately suffered no physical injuries.

Around 9 p.m., with the assistance of the Barrie Police Canine Unit, a suspect was arrested at a nearby address and a knife was recovered.

As a result of investigation, a 52-year-old Innisfil man was charged with the following:
    •    Break and enter
    •    Robbery with a weapon
    •    Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose

The accused was held for a bail hearing.

If you are the victim of a robbery:
    •    Do not resist
    •    Remain calm and obey the robber's commands
    •    Try to get a good look at the robber so you can later provide a suspect description
    •    Take note of any weapons involved
    •    Note the robber's direction of travel and if a vehicle is being used try to note the licence plate
    •    After the robbery, call 9-1-1 immediately
