Jeep rear-ends minivan, but then things get complicated

Innisfil resident charged with public mischief, obstructing police, driving while under suspension, among other charges

INNISFIL - On Thursday, April 9, 2020, around 6 p.m., a collision occurred on Innisfil Beach Road near Industrial Park Road in Innisfil where a Jeep rear-ended a minivan.

Both drivers exchanged information. Police were not called as the drivers were going to use the Collision Reporting Centre. The Jeep was towed from the scene, but despite major damage to the rear of the minivan, the other motorist drove off in the vehicle. 

On Friday, April 10, 2020, at 7:15 a.m., police were called to a report of a minivan in a ditch on Innisfil Beach Road near Industrial Park Road in Innisfil. At the same time, police were called about a report of a stolen minivan in Innisfil.

As a result of the investigation, officers determined the minivan in the ditch was staged and the reported theft of a minivan was false.

On Monday, April 13, 2020, 37-year-old Restuardo Barrera-Green of Innisfil was charged with:

  • Public mischief
  • Obstruct peace officer
  • Fail to give required information
  • Fail to report accident
  • Driving while under suspension
  • Drive motor vehicle no currently validated permit
  • Use a false or invalid insurance card that he or she knows or ought to know is false or invalid  

32-year-old Carla Varone of Innisfil was charged with:

  • Permit motor vehicle to be operated without insurance
Both accused were released with future court dates.
