Internet Child Exploitation Unit makes two arrests in two days

Two unrelated search warrants were executed at addresses in Orillia this week

The Barrie Police Service Internet Child Exploitation Unit, along with members of the OPP Child Sexual Exploitation Unit executed two unrelated search warrants at addresses in Orillia this week.

On Wednesday, Oct. 20, a 23-year-old male was arrested and is now facing charges of luring a child, sending sexually explicit material to a child, and making child pornography available via social media (Instagram).

The investigation was initiated in April 2021 after the victim filed a complaint with the Barrie police. The accused in this occurrence was held for bail and given a future court date.

The next day, Thursday, Oct. 21, the Barrie Police Service Internet Child Exploitation Unit along with members of the OPP Child Sexual Exploitation Unit executed a second unrelated search warrant in Orillia and arrested a 25-year-old male who is now facing charges of criminal harassment, extortion, and non-consensual distribution of intimate images via social media (Instagram).

The investigation was initiated in January 2021 after the 21-year-old female victim filed a complaint with the Barrie police. The accused in this occurrence was released on a Promise to Appear/Undertaking with a future court date.

Several computer devices belonging to the two accused were seized and will be forensically analyzed for digital evidence.
