INNISFIL - A 72-year-old woman is facing an impaired driving charge after a motorist failed to stop for police and refused a roadside breath test.

On Monday, Feb. 4, 2019 around 1:40 p.m., a South Simcoe Police Service officer attempted to pull over an erratic driver on Innisfil Beach Road in Innisfil. The driver failed to stop. The officer eventually was able to contain the suspect vehicle with the help of a passing motorist.

While speaking with the driver of the suspect vehicle, the officer detected an odour of alcohol and other signs of impairment. Multiple demands were made for a roadside screening test. As a result of the incident, a 72-year-old Innisfil woman was charged with impaired driving, flight from a peace officer and refuse to comply with demand for a roadside screening device.

The woman's licence was suspended for 90 days and her vehicle impounded for seven days. She was released with a court date later this month.

Thank you to the citizen who stepped up to help stop this driver. We are grateful for the support of our residents. By working together, we can make our communities safer.
