A local woman faces impaired driving charges after police say she failed to negotiate a curve and her car ended up crashing into a house on Penetang Street, Sunday.

Barrie police responded to the east-end neighbourhood around 3:30 a.m., March 12, after reports of a vehicle leaving the roadway.

Upon arrival at the scene, police say officers discovered the vehicle had actually entered the front room of the home.

Police say the driver, who was the lone occupant in the car, exhibited signs of impairment and was arrested at the scene. She was transported to Barrie Police Headquarters on Fairview Road where a breathalyzer technician assisted with the ongoing investigation.

As a result of this investigation and subsequent testing, the 21-year-old Barrie woman was charged with operation of a motor vehicle while impaired and driving with a blood-alcohol content over .80 milligrams.

She was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Barrie on March 27, 2023.

Police say the vehicle, which sustained significant front-end damage, was impounded for seven days and the driver had her driver’s licence suspended for 90 days, in accordance with the Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS) program.
