One driver charged after R.I.D.E. check blitz

Members of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) set up numerous R.I.D.E. vehicle check stop locations in the Detachment patrol area in the evening hours of Nov. 17-18, 2017.

Officers set up five RIDE check stop locations in the Town of Penetanguishene checking 97 vehicles in total. The result of these checks was one driver being removed from the roadway for a drinking and driving offence.

Charged is Mario Gatto, 30 years old of Clearview Township, with refusing to provide proper sample contrary to section 254(5) of the Criminal Code of Canada.

His vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days along with his driver's licence has been suspended for 90 days under the administrative drivers licence suspension (ADLS) program. He was released from police custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland on Dec. 7, 2017.

Further R.I.D.E. check stops were set up in Tay Township checking 15 vehicles and in Georgian Bay Township checking 10 vehicles which resulted in no drinking and driving offences.
