Georgina woman pleads guilty to $2.4M fraud against OMHA

A 47-year-old woman from the Town of Georgina has pleaded guilty in connection with a $2.4-million dollar fraud against the Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA).

On Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2021, Jennifer Guertin pleaded guilty before the Honourable Justice Marcella Henschel to one count each of theft over $5,000, breach of trust, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 (x2), unauthorized use of computer with intent to commit an offence.

She was given a 48-month jail sentence and ordered to pay $100,000 restitution to the OMHA.

In November 2018, officers with the Financial Crimes Unit began an investigation after receiving a report of missing funds from the OMHA. Investigators determined that during the accused’s tenure as director of finance, she had stolen approximately $2.4 million from the association. She was charged on Thursday, June 27, 2019.
