BARRIE POLICE SERVICE

*************************
On Sunday, October 2, 2016, at approximately 12:02 am the Barrie Police Service responded to a radio call on Dunlop St East in regards to an unconscious male.

The male appeared to be in medical distress and had laboured breathing.  EMS attended a short while after Police and treated the male.

While Police were on scene, a second male collapsed on the roadway in the same area.  And then a third male collapsed a few moments later.  The males were transported to the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre.

A half hour later a female collapsed in the downtown core and went unresponsive.  She was transported to hospital by EMS.

During the investigation Police learned that a fourth male had been taken to the hospital by EMS and that the four males and one female had attended a party together earlier in the evening.  They used cocaine and consumed alcohol.

Police were informed that all parties had stopped breathing while being transported to hospital.  All parties received medical treatment and are now in stable condition.

Police believe that an unknown opiate, possibly fentanyl, had been mixed with the cocaine.

The investigation is ongoing.
