On Friday, Nov. 30, 2018 around 9 p.m., a citizen called police about a man sitting in the driver's seat of a vehicle in the parking lot of a bar in Cookstown.

When police arrived, an odour of alcohol and signs of impairment were detected. The driver was placed under arrest and transported to the North Division. Further testing resulted in readings of three times the legal limit of alcohol.

The man's licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for seven days.

Thank you to the citizen who called to report a suspected impaired driver. By working together, we can make our roads safer and prevent tragedies. Impaired driving is the leading criminal cause of death in Canada. One phone call could save a life.
