Firefighters quickly extinguish blaze at log home in Alcona (4 photos)

The male occupant may have suffered smoke inhalation and was taken to hospital for observation as a precaution, says official

Today at around 6:30 a.m., Innisfil Fire and Rescue were called out to a structure fire in Alcona.

Crews arrived at 2329 Sideroad 25 to find heavy black smoke issuing from the rear of a log home.

“The one occupant was attempting to extinguish the fire with fire extinguishers,” said Deputy Fire Chief Brent Black.

The male occupant may have suffered smoke inhalation and was taken to hospital for observation as a precaution, Black added.

Firefighters began an immediate attack on the blaze and quickly knocked down the fire, although it had extended into the attic, said the deputy fire chief.

It took some time to extinguish “hot spots” in the mainly timber structure, he added. Amid the frigid temperatures, water quickly froze, coating building and grounds with ice.

The home, recently listed for sale at $1.3 million, sustained extensive damage at the rear, although the front of the house appeared intact.

“It will probably need an engineer” to determine if the building is structurally sound, Black said.

Investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
