Festive RIDE results are in

South Simcoe police doubled their RIDE programs from last holiday season with spot checks every two days

South Simcoe Police Service officers conducted Festive RIDE programs from Nov. 28, 2019, to Jan. 2, 2020.

The results are as follows (with the 2018 Festive RIDE totals in brackets):
  • 10,167 (8,275) Vehicles stopped by RIDE
  • 4 (4) Impaired by alcohol charges
  • 12 (8) Over 80 charges
  • 1(0) Impaired by drug charge
  • 21 (20) Drugs Readily Available charges
  • 14 (16) 3-Day Warn-Range Suspensions
  • 0 (1) 7-Day Warn Range Suspensions
  • 0 (1) 30-Day Warn Range Suspensions
  • 7 (4) Novice/21 years and under - presence of alcohol (zero tolerance)
  • *15 (N/A) Novice/21 years and under - presence of drugs (zero tolerance)
  • 5 (10) Liquor Licence Act charges
  • 40 (27) Highway Traffic Act charges
  • 24 (20) Criminal charges
  • 2 (2) Suspended drivers

We will continue year-round RIDE Programs in our ongoing efforts to apprehend impaired drivers. Over the course of 2019, we more than doubled the number of RIDE Programs with spot checks every two days.  Public safety, especially on our roads remains our top priority.  Thank you to every citizen who made the right choice to drive sober.  Huge shout out to everyone who called 911 to report suspected impaired drivers.
