Essa Township resident facing impaired, drug charges after crash

OPP says the suspect attempted to leave the scene following crash near 5th Sideroad and County Road 56

ESSA TWP. – On Friday April 10, at approximately 1:30 a.m., members of the Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a single motor vehicle collision in the area of 5th Sideroad and County Road 56, in Essa Township.  

A member of the public reported a driver of a motor vehicle involved in a collision was attempting to flee the scene. Officers attended the area, located the scene of the collision and the driver. As a result, the driver was subsequently arrested, transported to a local hospital where he was cleared medically and released.  

Ayron Celli, 21 years old, of Essa Township has been charged with the following offences:  

  • Impaired operation of a motor vehicle (drugs), contrary to section 320.14(1)(c) of the Criminal Code of Canada  
  • Possession of a schedule I substance (cocaine), contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act  
  • Careless driving, contrary to section 130 of the Highway Traffic Act.  

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Bradford on June 25, 2020, to answer to the charges.

The Nottawasaga OPP would like to express gratitude to members of the public who assisted in reporting this impaired driver. Anyone who suspects an impaired driver by either alcohol or drug is encouraged to call 911 and report it.
