Edged weapon pulled in Bayfield St. convenience store robbery

While officers couldn’t locate the suspect, 'we did recover an item that is being analyzed,' says Barrie police official

Barrie police are searching for a man who robbed a Bayfield Street convenience store last week and used a weapon to do so.

Just before 9:30 a.m., on Wednesday, Jan. 19, police say the owner of the convenience store near Bayfield and Sophia streets witnessed the man taking items.

Barrie police communications co-ordinator Peter Leon told BarrieToday it took a turn for the worse after that.

“The shop owner confronted the male where an edged weapon was brandished,” Leon said. “The man exited the store with the items and fled on foot west on Sophia Street.”

The suspect is described as a white male with a medium build. He was wearing a blue hoodie, grey jacket, black snow pants and possibly carrying orange gloves.

Leon said police responded with a canine unit. While they couldn’t locate the individual, “we did recover an item that is being analyzed," he said.
