A heavy police presence in Barrie’s east end has connections to a provincial blitz.
Police descended on Dunsmore Lane, located near Johnson Street and Georgian Drive in the Georgian College area, as Barrie police assist the OPP in an investigation that is taking place across southwestern Ontario on Tuesday, including London, Brantford, Ancaster and Brant County areas.
Barrie police communications co-ordinator Peter Leon told BarrieToday that more details are expected to come out in the coming days.
“This investigation has an element in Barrie and residents may have noticed a heavy police presence," he said. "While the investigation is still active, we are unable to provide further details at this time.
“We want to assure residents in all affected locations that appropriate safety measures have been taken there is no threat to public safety," Leon added.
An officer at the scene said the heavy police presence could be on Dunsmore Lane "well into tomorrow."
The OPP also released a video update Tuesday afternoon on Twitter regarding the ongoing investigation, but still remain tight-lipped about any details or the nature of the investigation.
