E-bike driver charged with impaired during snow storm

PENETANGUISHENE - Members of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped an e-bike on Main Street in the Town of Penetanguishene in the late afternoon of Nov. 19, 2017 after a concerned citizen notified the police of a possible impaired driver.

An e-bike with a lone occupant was making its way on the snow-covered road in white-out conditions when officers were alerted by a concerned citizen of a possible impaired driver heading into Penetanguishene.

Officers located the E-Bike and began their investigation into the condition of the operator. As a result of the investigation, the operator of the e-bike was arrested and transported to the Southern Georgian Bay OPP Detachment for further investigation.

Charged is Christopher Story, 32 years old of Penetanguishene, with driving while his ability was impaired contrary to section 253(1)(a) and further care or control over 80 Mgs contrary to section 253 (1)(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada.

His e-bike was towed and impounded for seven days and he was released from police custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland on Nov. 30, 2017.
