Driver has run-in with a tree, charges follow

Witnesses saw the incident and contacted police as the male was reportedly making multiple attempts to find his driveway

Barrie Police Service was called to the area of Edgehill Drive and Ferndale Drive North, in the City of Barrie, after witnesses reported an impaired driver who had just hit a tree.

On Thursday, Dec. 15, 2017 just after 3 p.m. the male driver left an address a few doors down from his destination. He attempted to pull into the driveway and missed it all together, running over a tree in the yard. Witnesses saw the incident and contacted police as the male was making multiple attempts to find the driveway, all while the small tree was still under his vehicle.

The 48-year-old Barrie man was arrested for impaired driving and taken back to the Barrie Police Service for further breath samples  He blew well over the legal limit and has been charged with impaired driving and blood alcohol over 80mgs. He will appear in a Barrie court in the new year to answer to his charges.  

Barrie Police Service would like to remind drivers to plan ahead and make responsible arrangements for getting to your destination when consuming alcohol.
