Driver clocked at 143 km/hr in a 100 km/hr zone

ORO-MEDONTE - On Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2017 at approximately 3:25 a.m., a member of Barrie Ontario Provincial Police was conducting general radar enforcement on Highway 400 near Forbes Road in the Township of Springwater. The officer observed a motor vehicle southbound at 143 km/hr in the posted 100 km/hr zone.

As a result of investigation the male driver, 26-year-old Phillip O'Neil Wessam of Ajax, was charged with speeding contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and fail or refuse to provide sample contrary to section 254(2) of the Criminal Code.

He is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Barrie on Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2017.

As a result of charges the rented motor vehicle was impounded for seven days and his driver's licence was suspended for 90 days.

The OPP reminds drivers that any amount of alcohol or other drug can impair one's ability to drive. If you plan on drinking or consuming drugs, take a taxi, stay overnight or take public transit. If the amount of alcohol or drug you consume is excessive, then be sure to wait until it is all out of your system before driving.
