On Thursday, Aug. 13, 2020 at approximately 4:02 p.m., uniformed officers from the Dufferin OPP Detachment responded to a traffic complaint on County Road 18 in the Town of Mono. The complainant advised that the driver was driving erratically, and was unable to maintain its lane.

A second complaint from another motorist was received minutes later. The complainant stated that the vehicle was travelling southbound on Airport Road driving in an unsafe manner. At that time, the vehicle had entered the Town of Caledon, prompting the Caledon OPP officers to respond to the call as well.

Caledon OPP officers located the suspect vehicle on Airport Road near Coolihans Side Road and conducted a traffic stop. When the officer approached the vehicle on foot, the driver proceeded to drive away from the officer.

The officer was able to stop the vehicle again a short distance away with the assistance of other police units and officers who strategically positioned their cruisers to prevent the vehicle from moving any further. During the arrest of the driver, the suspect vehicle struck the cruiser positioned in front of it causing minor damage to both vehicles.

No injuries were sustained as a result of the collision.

The driver of the vehicle was placed under arrest for impaired operation of a motor vehicle and transported to the Caledon OPP Detachment for further breath tests to be conducted.

As a result, Lise de Serres, 58 of Collingwood, stands charged with:
    •    Operation while impaired;
    •    Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus);
    •    Fail to stop for police; and
    •    Start from stopped position - not in safety

The driver received a 90-day driver's license suspension and a seven-day vehicle impound.

The accused is expected to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on Sept. 10, 2020 to answer to the charges.
