Driver charged with driving more than twice the posted speed limit

A North Bay man was clocked on radar driving 130 km/h in a 60 km/h zone

At approximately 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2018, a member of the Nottawasaga Detachment, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was performing traffic enforcement duties on Mill Street in the Village of Angus, Essa Township. At this time, the officer observed an eastbound vehicle overtaking other eastbound vehicles where the four lanes begin to reduce to two lanes of traffic. This particular area is a 60 km/h maximum zone.

The officer activated the radar and determined that the subject vehicle was travelling at a speed of 130 km/h. The vehicle was stopped and the driver, a 20-year-old male from North Bay, has been charged with stunt, race a motor vehicle, contrary to the Ontario Highway Traffic Act. His driving privileges have been suspended for seven days and his motor vehicle seized for seven days. He will make a court appearance in Barrie on Jan. 9, 2019.
