Driver charged after vehicle crashes into Essa Rd. home

Crash happened shortly before 11 p.m., Wednesday at the corner of Essa Road and Anne Street

A 36-year-old man faces multiple charges after his vehicle struck a Barrie house late Wednesday night.

The incident occurred around 10:56 p.m., June 29, when a white pickup truck crashed into a home at the corner of Anne Street and Essa Road.

Barrie police communications co-ordinator Peter Leon told BarrieToday that members of the public were helpful in the conclusion of the incident. 

“We had a couple of calls complaining about the truck’s driving and then ultimately received the call of a vehicle hitting the residence at 147 Essa Rd.," said Leon.

“Upon attending the scene, emergency personnel located the truck that was unoccupied  at the time. With the information of several witnesses, we were able to locate the driver a short time later. The public’s tips certainly were helpful here.l," he added.

A North York man has been charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle, driving with over 80 milligrams, and dangerous operation of a vehicle.

Leon said there were no injuries and the accused will be in court on July 13.
