Driver charged after fleeing scene of single-vehicle crash

SPRINGWATER TWP — Members of the Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Springwater Fire Department and the County of Simcoe Paramedic Services were called to a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 26 near McNabb Road west of Minesing just before 6 p.m. on Dec. 21.

One occupant fled the collision scene on foot and ran into a rural area. Police contained the immediate area, and began a search with the assistance of the OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) and OPP Canine. A short time later, the driver was located and apprehended.

This driver was subsequently identified as the same driver who had also fled earlier when police attempted to conduct a traffic stop.

Christopher Anoff, 29, of Brampton was arrested and charged with:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000
  • Flight from peace officer
  • Failure to stop after accident
  • Trespassing at night
  • Careless driving
  • Use plate not authorized for vehicle
  • Driving while under suspension
  • Operate a motor vehicle without insurance

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Collingwood on Feb. 1, 2022.
