A collision involving a pedestrian this morning has police reminding everyone to make sure your vehicle is not just cleared of snow, but that your windows are defrosted before heading out.

At 8:12 a.m., Monday, police were called to Cundles Road West between Lillian Crescent and Kozlov Street after a 39-year-old Barrie woman who was walking her dog was struck. She was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Barrie police communication co-ordinator Peter Leon told BarrieToday that no charges have been laid yet, but they are pending.

“This seems to be a case where the windows were not clearly defrosted and we can’t stress enough how important it is to take that extra few minutes to make sure you can see where you're going before you leave your driveway,” said Leon.

While Monday’s incident seems to be from frosted windows, Leon reminds everyone that it can go both ways and pedestrians need to be careful, too.

“This is one of the first really bitter cold days of the winter season and we’re all bundled up to stay warm. Maybe you’re wearing ear muffs or listening to music under a big hood,” said Leon.

“With that hood on, your peripheral vision isn’t what it usually is and you need to take some extra time to really take a look around and make sure everyone is stopped before you step out on the road," he added.
