Complaint in drive-thru leads to impaired charges in New Tecumseth

TOWN OF NEW TECUMSETH, ADJALA-TOSORONTIO & ESSA TOWNSHIPS – On Friday June 25, 2021 at approximately 12:45 a.m., members of the Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint at a food drive-thru in New Tecumseth.  

The [suspect] vehicle and driver were located, leading police into an impaired driving investigation.  

As a result of the investigation, 34-year-old Terry Barrett, of Essa Township, has been charged with:             

  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)         
  • Operation while impaired - alcohol or drugs     

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bradford on July 29, 2021.    

Police are thanking the public for acting quickly and assisting with making our roads safer.    

Police are reminding the public, if you suspect an impaired driver, call 9-1-1 immediately.
