Collingwood man faces litany of charges following traffic stop on Hwy. 26

SPRINGWATER TOWNSHIP - On Thursday, March 14, 2019 at approximately 9:35 a.m., Huronia West Ontario Provincial Police responded to a traffic complaint for a vehicle driving erratically on Highway 26 in Springwater Township. 

Police located the vehicle and determined that it was stolen.

A traffic stop was initiated at which time the accused fled on foot.

Following a short foot pursuit, the male suspect was subsequently arrested by officers.

Richard Asselstine, 27 years old of Collingwood, Ont., was arrested and is charged with:

  • Theft over $5000
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 - x2 counts
  • Flight from peace officer - x 2 counts
  • Resist peace officer
  • Fail to comply with probation order
  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
  • Dangerous operation

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie on March 15, 2019 for a bail hearing.
