Clapperton St. businesses targeted in smash-and-grab attempts (VIDEO)

35-year-old woman faces several charges following downtown crime spree

BJ’s Records and Nostalgia shared a video to their Facebook page that shows a woman unsuccessfully trying to break into the Clapperton Street business in downtown Barrie earlier this week.

The incident happened at 2 a.m., Wednesday, and shows a woman hitting the window with an object and then walking away.

BJ’s owner Bill Loiselle told BarrieToday he was lucky, as his windows only had “a couple scraps and scars,” but that the suspect had also hit other Clapperton Street businesses.

“From what I understand, she tried to break our window, but couldn’t get through,” Loiselle said. “She busted one at Painters Hall and then busted one at Yo Taco down the street.

"She was pretty widespread, but that is all I know," he added. "I believe the police actually caught her.”

Barrie police communications co-ordinator Peter Leon told BarrieToday a 35-year-old woman, of no fixed address, was arrested and faces several charges, including break and enter (Painters Hall); break, enter and theft (Yo Taco); possession of break-in instruments; possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000; failure to comply with a probation order; and failure to comply with and undertaking.

She has been remanded in custody and has a court date scheduled for Tuesday, June 23.
