Last night, Barrie police officers were kept busy as they searched for two suspects who were reportedly entering unlocked motor vehicles and stealing items that had been left behind in the cars.

Responding officers attempted to locate a male and female suspect who were in the Wildwood Trail and Ferndale Drive South area, but were unsuccessful.

Although descriptions were limited, police tried to locate the suspects who were described as male, white, wearing a hoodie (no colour provided), carrying a reusable grocery bag and a female, white with long blond hair and wearing a light green hoodie.

Shortly after 10 p.m., Barrie police received a call from a citizen who had been out walking in the Ardagh Road area and was aware that police were looking for the suspects responsible for the thefts. The citizen located a cellular phone in a black protective case, a knife with a red handle and a fancy watch that had been left on a retaining wall at a home located on Ardagh Road. The items were left to be found and police attended and seized them.

Anyone who recognizes the descriptions as provided or may have video of the thieves in action is asked to contact Barrie police Const. Mellish at 705-725-7025, ext. 2634.

Police believe that there will likely be other victims who this morning may discover that they, too, were relieved of property that was obtained from their unlocked vehicle by these opportunistic thieves. If you are a victim, you can report your theft online at www.barriepolice.ca/citizens-online-reporting.

Barrie police is reminding the public to always lock your motor vehicle whenever you park it, and to never leave items of value behind.
