City police investigating after cyclist struck by vehicle in south end

Barrie police official says 35-year-old male cyclist was on the sidewalk when he was hit by vehicle turning into a plaza parking lot

The investigation into Sunday's collision in south-end Barrie involving a vehicle and a cyclist is ongoing, but the victim's injuries are not as severe as initially thought, according to city police.

Police received the call at 5:17 p.m., April 24, that a cyclist had been struck in the area of Ferndale Drive and Ardagh Road.

The 35-year-old male cyclist was transported to local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Barrie police communications co-ordinator Peter Leon said the call was initially believed to be more serious.

“It would appear as if the vehicle had been travelling northbound on Ferndale and was completing a right-hand turn into the parking lot of the plaza there,” Leon told BarrieToday. “The cyclist was travelling on the sidewalk.”

The area was closed for approximately four hours as the traffic unit investigated and reconstructed the scene.

No cause has been determined and no charges have been laid, but the investigation is ongoing.
