City police hope photo will help catch two suspects in July assault at Anne, Dunlop

Barrie police official says a woman tried to intervene, but 'that's when the two people turned on her and actually tried to push her into oncoming traffic'

Barrie police hope someone in the community can identify two people wanted in connection to pair of assaults last month in the area of Anne and Dunlop streets.

Police received a call at 8:20 p.m., July 17, about an assault in progress on Anne Street, just south of Dunlop Street.

Barrie police communications co-ordinator Peter Leon told BarrieToday that a female was assaulted while trying to assist another person who was in an altercation with a man and a woman.

“The picture we have was taken by a female who saw someone being assaulted and tried to get the suspects’ picture for identification,” Leon said Wednesday afternoon. “That's when the two people turned on her and actually tried to push her into oncoming traffic.”

The suspects took off after another person came from the Tiff’s restaurant patio to help out, Leon said.

The male suspect was wearing plaid shorts, a black sweater, red and black running shoes, and a red hat.

There were very few details about the female suspect, but Leon hopes someone can identify her from the picture that was taken and now released to the public.

“We tried to identify the suspects internally, but were unable," he said. "We’re now hoping someone from the public knows who these two people are and can lead police to them."

Anyone who can help is asked to email the investigating officer at [email protected].
