Barrie teen charged after northern Ontario crash results in life-threatening injuries

TEMISKAMING SHORES - On June 7, 2020 shortly after 2:30 a.m., members of the Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), the Temiskaming District Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and the Temiskaming Shores Fire Department, responded to a multi-vehicle collision that occurred on Whitewood Avenue in the City of Temiskaming Shores.

Further investigation revealed that the motor vehicle was travelling westbound when it lost control and collided with a hydro pole, four residences and two other vehicles.

The 16-year-old driver sustained minor injuries. Both passengers – a 15- and 17-year-old – were ejected from the vehicle.

The 17-year-old passenger suffered minor injuries. 

The 15-year-old suffered serious life-threatening injuries and was transported by ambulance to hospital. 

The occupants of the residences were not injured.

The OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators (TTCI) assisted with this investigation.

As a result of the investigation, a 16-year-old youth of the City of Barrie, who cannot be identified under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA), has been arrested and charged with:
    •    Dangerous operation causing bodily harm, contrary to section 320.13(2) of the Criminal Code (CC) (two counts)

The accused was released on an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Youth Court of Justice on Aug. 11, 2020 in the City of Temiskaming Shores.
