Barrie resident found with 2 pounds of suspected cocaine up north

An evening traffic stop in Johnson Township in northern Ontario has led to a number of charges for a Barrie resident after two pounds of suspected cocaine was seized.

Shortly before 7 p.m., Saturday, the Ontario Provincial Police stopped a vehicle on Highway 17 they say was passing unsafely near a crest of a hill.

Police say the driver had an unsealed container of cannabis within reach and, while beginning to search the vehicle, the driver had "a medical episode."

The driver was taken to hospital in Thessalon before being released into police custody.

While continuing a search of the vehicle, police say two pounds of suspected cocaine, with an estimated street value of $75,000, was found.

Salar Nowbari, 36, from Barrie was charged with:

  • possession of schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking-cocaine
  • possession of schedule I substance - cocaine
  • drive left of centre - approaching crest of grade
  • drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available
  • fail to surrender licence
