Barrie resident charged with impaired driving in Innisfil

On Wednesday, March 24, 2021, at approximately 9:20 p.m., South Simcoe Police Service received a 911 call regarding a possible impaired driver in Innisfil.  

Information received was that the suspect vehicle had done a U-turn on Innisfil Beach Road at Webster Boulevard and almost collided with another car.

Responding officers observed the suspect vehicle [allegedly] travelling at a high rate of speed in the Willow Avenue and 25th Sideroad area. A short time later, officers located the vehicle parked in a nearby residential driveway and arrested the driver for operation while impaired.  

As a result of the investigation, 35-year-old Eddy Moniz of Barrie was charged with operation while impaired and failure or refusal to comply with demand.

The accused's licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for seven days. He was released with a future court date.

Thank you to the citizen who called to report a suspected impaired driver. Driving impaired is a dangerous choice that puts the drivers, their passengers and everyone on the road at risk. Crashes involving alcohol and/or drugs are a leading criminal cause of death in Canada.  March 21-27 is National Impaired Driving Prevention Week. Make the right choice.
