Barrie resident among drivers charged with impaired by South Simcoe police

Three people facing charges as police investigate three separate incidents Tuesday in Bradford and Innisfil

The South Simcoe Police Service charged three people with impaired driving offences yesterday.

On Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2022, at approximately 10 p.m., police responded to the area of Line 5 and Sideroad 10 in Bradford for a report of an 18-wheeler stopped at a stop sign and the driver asleep. Officers arrived on scene and the driver was arrested.  As a result of the investigation, 45-year-old Owen Kitsemetry of Barrie was charged with Operation While Impaired, Operation While Impaired - Excess Blood Alcohol and Open Liquor.

On Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2022, at approximately 12:30 p.m., police conducted a traffic stop on Sideroad 5 in the area of 3rd Line in Bradford after observing a vehicle being operated erratically on the side of the road. The driver was arrested. As a result of the investigation, 51-year-old Jan Ratuszniak of Bradford was charged with Operation While Impaired and Operation While Impaired - Excess Blood Alcohol.  

On Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2022, at approximately 2:30 a.m., police were called to a report of a vehicle stuck in a snowbank in the area of Scythes Street and Dempster Avenue in Innisfil. The driver, who was not injured, was arrested. As a result of the investigation, 44-year-old Shaun Hebert of Kitchener was charged with Operation While Impaired by Drug, Operation While Prohibited and Dangerous Operation.

A charge of impaired driving immediately results in a 90-day licence suspension and a seven-day impoundment of the vehicle. Members of the public are reminded to report suspected impaired drivers by calling 911.  Thank you to the citizens who make these calls and support our commitment to road safety.
