The following statement was issued via social media today by the Barrie Police Service regarding reports that a shooting had occurred at Bear Creek Secondary School:

The Barrie Police Service would like to assure parents and all social media followers, that all students and staff of Bear Creek Secondary School are safe.

There are false reports circulating on social media that a shooting had occurred inside the school.

Police received a call for a suspicious vehicle that had been observed in the parking lot of the school. Police did attend to investigate and found no validity to that complaint. The school was placed into lock down at their discretion as a pre-cautionary measure.

Again, there was no shooting at Bear Creek High School and all students are safe.

Please refrain from calling 911 or the Barrie Police Service Communication Centre for information.
