On Friday, Feb. 19, 2021, a sworn member of the Barrie Police Service was arrested and charged with two counts of Fraud Over $5,000 and one count of Possession of Proceeds of Crime Over $5,000.

In October 2020, Chief of Police Kimberley Greenwood learned of the off-duty allegations and immediately ordered an investigation into the conduct of the officer, who has been absent from active duty since mid-November 2018.

The Service’s Professional Standards Unit recently completed the complex and lengthy probe into the allegations that occurred between November 2018 and March 2020.

Constable Nicole Hankin, a 13-year member of the Barrie Police Service, is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie, Ontario on April 12, 2021 and has been suspended from duty with pay in accordance to Section 89(1) of the Police Services Act R.S.0 1990, pending the outcome of this matter.

“The need for transparency has never been more apparent and as a professional police service we hold our members to a high standard.” states Chief Greenwood.
