A young boy sustained minor injuries in a hit-and-run collision Tuesday morning in Barrie's south end.

The incident happened around 9 a.m., at the intersection of Wright Drive and Ardagh Road, east of Mapleton Avenue.

Police say the eight-year-old boy was walking to school with his 11-year-old brother when the collision happened.

"This could have been a horrific outcome," Barrie police communications co-ordinator Peter Leon told BarrieToday on Tuesday night. "The male driver definitely knew that contact had been made."

Leon said the boy reported the incident to school officials when he arrived. The boy's parents were then contacted and police were informed.

Barrie police are searching for a grey/silver sport-utility vehicle.
