Barrie police say they clocked a vehicle going 110 kilometres per hour on Mapleview Drive East in the city's south end this morning.

A local man may end up walking to catch his train for the next few days.

A vehicle travelling more than twice the posted speed limit was stopped in south-end Barrie, Wednesday morning.

Shortly after 7 a.m., the Barrie police traffic unit caught the vehicle on radar at 110 kilometres per in a posted 50 km/h zone on Mapleview Drive East, near Huronia Road.

Barrie police communications co-ordinator Peter Leon said the driver was in a hurry to get to the Barrie South GO Station at Mapleview and Yonge Street.

"Based on the traffic stop, it's safe to say he missed his train," Barrie police communications co-ordinator Peter Leon told BarrieToday

The 35-year-old male driver was charged with stunt driving under the Highway Traffic Act. His vehicle and licence were seized for seven days.

Given the early morning conditions and cold roads, Leon said it had the potential for a very dangerous outcome.
