A report of someone asleep at the wheel in Barrie has resulted in charges.

Shortly after 6 a.m. Tuesday, city police responded to the parking lot of a restaurant on Barrie View Drive for the report of a suspected impaired driver.

Police located the vehicle. The driver’s door was open, the keys were in the ignition and the engine was running. The driver, a 39-year-old of no fixed address, was awakened by police and arrested for impaired driving.

Police say a drug recognition evaluator determined he was impaired by drug. Police also determined he was prohibited from driving, was using a plate that was not authorized for the vehicle, had suspected cocaine and methamphetamine in his possession and was wanted on an outstanding warrant.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear June 14 in Barrie court.
