Barrie man faces several charges following traffic stop in Bracebridge

Charges include operation of a motor vehicle while impaired by drug, possession of cocaine, and possession of crack cocaine

BRACEBRIDGE  A Barrie man faces several charges following a public complaint Thursday morning on Highway 11. 

According to Bracebridge OPP, just after 8 a.m. a member of the public reported seeing a vehicle positioned alongside Highway 11 South, just south of Gravenhurst, "and the driver behaviour seemed concerning," police said in a news release.

Officers arrived and, after an investigation was commenced, the suspect was arrested and charged. 

David Cheesequay, 37, of Barrie, has been charged with:

  • Operation of a Motor Vehicle while Impaired by Drug CC 320.14(1)(a)
  • Possession of Schedule I Substance - Cocaine CDSA 4(1)
  • Possession of Schedule I Substance - Crack Cocaine CDSA 4(1)
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 CC 354(1)(a) X 2
  • Several Highway Traffic Act and Liquor License Act offenses

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on Oct. 12, 2021 to answer to the charges. His driver's licence has also been suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded.
