Barrie man charged after vehicle hits, breaks utility pole in Innisfil

INNISFIL - A 29-year-old Barrie man was charged with several offences including careless driving following a single vehicle collision in Innisfil.

On Saturday, Jan. 18, 2020 around 11 p.m., South Simcoe Police Service officers responded to a single vehicle collision on Mapleview Drive in Innisfil. An eastbound vehicle left the roadway into the south ditch and travelled nearly 100 metres before colliding with a wooden utility pole. The impact caused the utility pole to break and live wires landed on top of the vehicle.  

When police arrived, they asked several people at the scene if anyone was associated with the vehicle, which they all declined. The driver was subsequently arrested as he started to walk away from the scene. A 29-year-old Barrie man was charged with careless driving, fail to report a collision, fail to remain at the scene of a collision, and drive while under suspension. He was released with a future court date.

The vehicle was impounded for seven days.

No one was injured.
