Barrie man arrested following seizure of multiple firearms

The arrest is connected to an ongoing gun trafficking investigation, according to Nottawasaga Community Street Crime Unit

TOWN OF NEW TECUMSETH, ADJALA-TOSORONTIO & ESSA TOWNSHIPS – Members of the Nottawasaga Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have laid charges against a Barrie resident in relation to an ongoing gun trafficking investigation.

On Monday, June 1, 2020, members of the Nottawasaga CSCU executed a search warrant at a residence in Barrie resulting in an arrest and seizure of multiple firearms and ammunition.  

A 34-year-old male from Barrie has been charged with: 

  • Trafficking in Firearm, Weapon, Device or Ammunition, contrary to s. 99 of the Criminal Code of Canada (CC) - two counts;  
  • Careless storage of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited device or ammunition, contrary to s.86(1) CC - five counts;  
  • Lost Firearm or Weapon Not Reported, contrary to s.105(1)(a) CC;  
  • Find Firearm or Weapon Not Reported, contrary to s.105(1)(b) CC;  
  • Transfer Firearm, Prohibited or Restricted Weapon without Authority, contrary to s.101 CC; and  
  • Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition, contrary to s.92(2) CC - two counts.  

The name of the accused and scheduled court date are being withheld to protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation.
