Barrie driver among four charged with impaired driving in Bradford, Innisfil

The South Simcoe Police Service charged four people with impaired driving-related offences since Friday.

On Monday, Aug. 23, 2021 at approximately 4:30 a.m., police were called to the area of 10th Line and Purvis Street in Innisfil for a report of a vehicle in Lake Simcoe. When officers arrived on scene, they located a water-soaked vehicle parked on the beach.

As a result of the investigation, 31-year-old Iosif Gheorghiade of Innisfil was charged with operation while impaired and operation while impaired - excess blood alcohol. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for seven days.

He was released from police custody with a future court date.

On Sunday, Aug, 22, 2021 at approximately 1:45 a.m., police were called to the area of 10 Sideroad and Innisfil Beach Road in Innisfil regarding a rear-end collision where the suspect vehicle left the scene. No one was injured. Police located the vehicle and the driver was arrested for impaired driving.

As a result of the investigation, 33-year-old Katherine Arancibia of Etobicoke was charged with operation while impaired, operation while impaired - excess blood alcohol, and dangerous operation. Her licence was suspended for 90 days and her vehicle impounded for seven days.  

She was released with a future court date.

On Saturday, Aug. 21, 2021 at approximately 9 p.m., police were called to the area of St. Johns Road and Adams Road in Innisfil regarding a hit-and-run collision. Police determined that a vehicle struck a parked vehicle in a driveway and left the scene. No one was injured. Responding officers located the suspect vehicle and the driver was arrested for impaired driving.

As a result of the investigation, 37-year-old Caitlin Hopkins of Barrie was charged operation while impaired, operation while impaired - excess blood alcohol, dangerous operation, fail to remain, fail to surrender licence, and disobey stop sign. Her licence was suspended for 90 days and her vehicle impounded for seven days.

On Friday, Aug. 20, 2021 at approximately 11:50 a.m., police were called to the Scanlon Creek Conservation area on Line 9 in Bradford for a report of a suspicious person. The person subsequently left the scene in a vehicle driving at a high rate of speed. Police located the vehicle at a home in Bradford and the driver was arrested for impaired driving.

As a result of the investigation, 28-year-old Isaac Trotta of Bradford was charged with operation while impaired by drug and dangerous operation. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for seven days.

Impaired driving is the leading criminal cause of death and injury in Canada. The deaths and injuries resulting from impaired driving are 100 percent preventable. If you're going to drive, drive sober.
