It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Nelson Wood on Friday, April 19, 2024 at the age of 75 after a very brief illness. He leaves behind his wife of 37 years, Virginia. Nelson was a dedicated stepfather to Corley (Mike) and Shelby and was a wonderful grandfather to Noah, Ben, and Foster. Nelson will be greatly missed by his nieces, nephews and extended family including Laurie Robinson of British Columbia.

Nelson grew up and went to elementary school in Elmvale, Ontario. He then attended Mount Royal College in Calgary, Washington State University, and then Lakeshore Teachers College in Toronto. Nelson had a very rewarding career as a teacher and administrator with the Simcoe County District School Board where he positively influenced many students’ lives.

Since retiring in 2003, Nelson enjoyed spending many winters in Ajijic, Mexico, but especially loved his time at his beloved cottage on Gibson Lake, where he would often be found puttering around fixing things that he thought needed to be fixed. In the last years of his life, Nelson spent a lot of time cheering on his grandsons in their various activities. He was their biggest fan.

There is no formal service planned. His family will be celebrating his life privately at a later time.
Donations in Nelson’s memory may be made to Hospice Simcoe, Gilda’s Club of Barrie or Autism Ontario and would be greatly appreciated by the family.
