Passed away tragically at the age of 22 on Saturday, August 27, 2022.  Luke was the cherished son of David & Susan (nee Davis) West and younger brother to Mark.  He will be sadly missed by his grandparents, Shirley West, Ken & Linda Davis, his Aunts, Uncles and cousins, Jeff & Debbi (nee West) Garlin, Brittany & Cameron, Scott & Christine (nee Davis) Moyer, Makayla & Ethan, Mike Davis & Lia Krezek, Stephanie, Justin and Cody and his beloved dog Max.

Big Poppa (John West) will guide his journey and make sure Luke is playing heavenly lacrosse with some of the best to have ever played the game.

“Westy” was a passionate lacrosse player and coach and will be missed by the members of Barrie Bomber Jr. C Lacrosse Club and the Barrie Minor Lacrosse Association. He joined Barrie lacrosse at the age of 3, often complaining to his dad that they really weren’t playing lacrosse just Hokey Pokey with sticks. He would go on to play in five provincial championships, becoming a two-time OMFLL Provincial Champion.  In 2015, Luke was the Captain of the first Barrie midget (U17) lacrosse team to advance to the OLA’s prestigious “A” qualifiers.  Luke first played for the Barrie Bomber Jr. C’s as a Minor Midget at the age of 14 and was elated that he finally was able to play on the same team with his big brother Mark.

This past summer Luke had the pleasure of being the defensive coach for Barrie’s Minor Midget (U17) team, although he knew he was going to lose his current job for taking the Friday off to attend the Provincials, Luke knew his boys needed him.  He was extremely proud that they went on to win a Silver medal in the championship game.

He had an emerging green thumb and was always ready to pitch in and help his mom with the garden, usually so he could claim prime sun location in the garden for his own plants.

Luke was an old soul wrapped in a young body.  He was driven, tough when he needed to be, compassionate, kind and caring and always had your back.

He will always be remembered for his incredible smile that would light up the room.

Visitation will take place at the Adams Funeral Home (445 St. Vincent Street, Barrie, Ontario) on Saturday, September 10th from 1-5pm and Sunday, September 11th from 1-5pm. The Funeral Service will be on Monday, September 12th at 11:00am in the Chapel. Reception to follow from 12:00-2:30pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Barrie OSPCA.
