Cindy W

June 18th, 1955 – March 2nd, 2022

After successfully fighting Type 1 Diabetes for over fifty years, Cinder passed away peacefully among loved ones in Barrie, Ontario.  Predeceased by her brother Rob Frost and father Mac Frost, she is survived by her loving son Jason Hammond and mother Beth Frost (née Pratt).  Cinder is remembered by a cherished extended family, and so many dear friends.  Born Cynthia Louise Frost, in Toronto, Cinder made her home in Guelph during her university years, later settling in homes of her own design in Bracebridge and Springwater.  She also found joy in exploring the world, with many happy memories in Hawaii, Japan, Egypt, Jamaica, Ireland, and across Canada and the United States.
Growing up surrounded by Mac and Beth’s passion for the golf business, Cinder’s most recent contribution to the family’s entrepreneurial legacy was to lead the opening and growth of Vespra Hills Golf Club, at the site of Beth’s childhood home.  She expanded upon Mac’s original design for the course, and a personal approach to engaging the members in a spirit of welcome and hospitality.  Cinder thrived when playing the game with her Dad and a great number of close friends over the years, including success as a Junior Pro golfer and participation in many Pro-Am tournaments. She also continued Mac’s passion for barbershop chorus performance as a Sweet Adeline, and shared Beth’s excellence in floral design.  Cinder delivered tremendous creativity in all parts of her life, through joyful wordplay and song, thoughtful design of her homes and businesses, and a unique role in the many lives she touched along the way.
As a teenager, a diagnosis changed Cinder’s life and the lives of all who loved her.  Never letting the disease limit her, she joined her parents and other founding families in the development of the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation (now JDRF).  This began a lifelong commitment to the fundraising and awareness that supports the path to a cure for T1D.  Her friend Edith generously gave her many additional years with a transplant, allowing her more time to enjoy the company of loved ones and to serve the community through pursuits of business and charity.
To honour and continue her efforts in this moment of Cinder’s passing, please give generously to JDRF, and consider the gift of organ donation or other efforts that support those in need of transplants.
A celebration of life will be held on June 18th, 2022 from 1:00-4:00pm at Vespra Hills Golf Club.
