July 2, 1927 – July 16, 2021

It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the peaceful passing of our father John “Jack” Thomas Wallwin on Friday, July 16, 2021 at Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre at the age of 94.

Jack loved and adored his wife the late Elverda “Verdi” (2011) married May 29, 1954.

Loving and proud father of Craig and Nancy (David) McCullough. “PawPaw” loved his grandchildren - Zach (Becca), John (Chelsey) McCullough, Fergie (Chris) Gammon and Addison Wallwin. Dad took great delight in his 5 great grandchildren – Callahan, Ledger and Lennon McCullough and Hudson and Jack Gammon. Lovingly remembered by Cindy Wallwin.

Dear brother of Emma Stewart (Ron), Joan (Aase) and the late Kay, Ruth, Ross and Phyllis.

Jack was born July 2, 1927 to John and Ida Wallwin of Vespra Township. He met the love of his life at RVH in 1952 – Elverda “Verdi” Reynolds, a registered nursing student. Jack began his career as an electrician after graduating from Ryerson and apprenticing with Art Webster. In 1951, Jack opened Wallwin Electric on Sophia St. Barrie working alongside his brother Ross. In 1958, Wallwin Electric moved to the present location at 50 Innisfil Street. Jack retired in 1991 handing the business down to his son Craig.

Dad loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, skiing, snowmobiling, golfing and boating. As well, he and mom always enjoyed travelling and were able to see many parts of the world.

Jack was President of Sheba Shrine in 1971, a member of the Rotary Club of Barrie, Jesters, Probus and an active member of Trinity Anglican Church.

He was both an entrepreneur and a visionary, making many contributions to the growth of the City of Barrie. He believed strongly in giving back to the Community that supported him. Over the years he quietly contributed to many local charities. Jack has been referred to as, “one of the institutions of our community”.

Our father was a great role model in teaching us life long lessons and most importantly, treat all with respect.

PawPaw and Nana adored their grandchildren and cherished every moment they spent with them.

Dad had a wonderful life with many great friends and will be sadly missed by all. A special thank you to our father’s caregivers for their care and compassion. Thank you to the staff at RVH for their exceptional care.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, a private family service will take place. A Masonic memorial service is planned to occur once restrictions lessen.  A Celebration of Life to follow at a later date once conditions allow. Funeral arrangements entrusted to the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley St., Barrie. Donations in Jack’s memory may be made to the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre, the Scottish Rite Learning Centre for Dyslexia or to a charity of choice and are greatly appreciated by the family.
