With devastating sadness we announce the death of our wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, friend, and fellow conspirator Candice (Candy) Uniac (nee Candice Ann Bell) at the young age of 72 in Barrie, Ontario. Born in Clinton and raised in Blyth, she was a generous soul, sharing what she had with everyone else. Candy was a loving person who always saw the absolute best in everyone she met, then teased them about it.
Candy was Gerry’s best friend for the almost 52 years they were married. Their marriage was real and it was rooted in love, faith and commitment. Those roots only grew over the years.
When Candy and Gerry moved to Elmvale from Thamesford four years ago, they left one wonderful community to find another that welcomed them with open arms. Candy made many new friends through the CWL and her knitting group, as well as volunteering at the church.
Being able to spend her last years as neighbours to her son Mike, beloved daughter-in-law Lesley, and grandchildren Sean, and Alyssa, was a dream come true for Mom who lived to spoil her grandkids. Sean and Alyssa cherish these memories and promise to share them with all of Mom’s grandchildren.
Mom loved her weekly visits and daily chats with her daughter Theresa (Mat), especially because of her grand daughters Jocelyn and Lillian. She is predeceased by her grand daughter Bridget, who has been waiting in heaven for Grandma to come play and snuggle.
Mom was both grateful and sad that some of her children moved out West. Sad because she missed having them nearby, but grateful that she had beautiful new places to visit. Mom embraced technology while encouraging her children to spread their wings and become the people she always knew they would be.
She loved to brag about her son Joe (Marie) and the way their Lincoln and Leah were so loving, always taking care of each other. Her son Tim (Elise) and grandson Freddie kept Mom laughing and in awe of all their adventures. She proudly recounted Tom’s stories of camping and jobs in places she wanted to see. Knowing Rita had found her home with the love of her life Michael made Mom glow every time she spoke about them.
Mom loved going on thrifting, craft show, shopping, and eating excursions with her oldest son, Bill, who always knew the right places to show her. Mom’s oldest daughter, Trish, gave her many reasons to brag and she always found an opportunity to tell people Trish was a doctor.
Mom will finally be reunited with her parents Edward and Muriel Bell, and her brothers Bryan (Mary) and Douglas (Shirley), whom she has been missing so much.
Due to public health measures, a private ceremony will take place on March 31, 2021, followed by interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Barrie. To view the recorded funeral mass please visit Adams Funeral Home Barrie You Tube channel.
In lieu of flowers, our family suggests donations be made to Bridget’s Bunnies in Candy’s honour. We also ask you to hug everyone you can while you can. Kiss them and tell them you love them. COVID has kept us separate physically but has taught us that there are many ways to show love.
